Tradespeople transitioning
to VDC Roles

This course will prepare tradespeople who have existing experience in the skilled trades for a transition to Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) roles.Subsidies up to $15,000 per participant are available to reimburse employers for wages paid and other expenses for a work experience placement after coursework is completed.

Work Experience Subsidies: Reimbursements up to $15,000 per participant can be received for:100% of wages paid during training and subsequent work experience placement.

There are no application/program fees for eligible applicants

Employers may enroll multiple participants in this program stream.

Fees & Work Experience Subsidies

There are no fees to apply or participate in any sections of this program.

Reimbursements up to $15,000 per participant can be received for:

  • 100% of wages paid during training and subsequent work experience placement.
  • VDC/BIM software licenses required for the participant during the placement.

Eligibility

Participant Eligibility Requirements

People who want to complete our digital learning program must:

  • Be registered by their current employer in the Digital Tradesperson program.
  • Have a current role, or recent background, in the skilled trades.
  • Be transitioning into a VDC orientated role at the time of application, or after training courses are complete.
  • Complete a 4-day in-person training course.
  • Complete a VDC work experience placement of a minimum of 200 hours.
  • Have their place of work primarily in Alberta.
Employer Requirements

Employers must not receive funding from other provincial granting programs for Digital Tradesperson work experience placements and additionally must also:

  • Be a member of a local Alberta Construction Association affiliate.Operates in Alberta.
  • Have no unsatisfied Alberta employment standards judgements against them.
  • Comply with Alberta employment standards.

Reimbursement Process

A reimbursement requests package is required at the completion of
the work placement, including:

  • A feedback survey completed by the employer
    (submitted via online form).
  • A feedback survey completed by the participating employee
    (submitted via online form).
  • Statements of earnings for each pay period during the training and work experience placement.
  • Proof of purchase of any software licenses/subscriptions for the participant requested for reimbursement.
  • An EFT Authorization Form for the Alberta Construction Association's accounting department to process payments.

Once our program administrators have received and processed the “reimbursement request package,” a reimbursement request will be submitted to the ACA. Payments will be processed in 3-5 weeks after submitted.
